As SEN parents, it’s easy to focus on the challenges. The appointments, paperwork, school meetings, sleepless nights, and worries can sometimes feel endless.
But hidden amongst those difficult moments are the small wins.
A new word spoken.
A food tried for the first time.
A successful trip to the shops.
A calmer bedtime.
A moment of connection.
To the outside world, these achievements may seem tiny. To us, they can feel enormous. When you are raising a child with additional needs, progress doesn’t always follow the path people expect. Sometimes growth comes in the smallest steps, and those steps deserve to be celebrated.
Small wins build confidence.
Small wins build resilience.
Small wins remind us how far our children have come.
On the hard days, it can help to pause and look back. Think about where your child was six months ago, a year ago, or even last week. Often the progress is there, even if it feels slow.
As parents, we also need to celebrate our own small wins.
Getting through a difficult day.
Making that phone call.
Attending that meeting.
Taking five minutes for yourself.
These things matter too.
At The SEN Parent Studio, we believe every step forward deserves recognition, no matter how small it may seem.
